HUBBS HALL - CIRCA 1976
MICROSOFT PROJECT - PHASING DIAGRAM, PAGE 1
Hubbs Hall is an existing Laboratory & Office building associated with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. The facility is stepped into the Torrey Pines bluffs, overlooking the La Jolla Shores. The building exterior falls on the University's list of historic buildings for preservation. Over the last several decades, the facility has shown visible evidence of degradation, with several major systems and infrastructure failures over time. The University's deferred maintenance program was challenged in keeping up with the renovations and upgrades required for a facility of this nature. Primary known issues included, but were not limited to: structural cracking and spalling of the structural slab on grade, spalling at the concrete superstructure, cracking and spalling of the exterior concrete facade elements, failures to the sewer, domestic supply, acid waste, fire, area drain, and sea water infrastructure below grade, and known voids developing behind site retaining walls. Phase I scope included targeted investigations by the awarded Engineering Team into the aforementioned conditions.
Clark Architects, Inc. served as the Owner's Representing Project Manager responsible for managing the awarded Engineering Team and direct-sourced 3rd Party investigations & testing subcontractors, tracking scope development, and representing the University's interests through the development of conceptual repair & renovation recommendations. Clark Architects, Inc. also worked with the Client & Tenant to develop detailed Project Charters and Executive Narrative materials, which outlined the course of action, degree of impact, fiscal committment, and overarching departmental objectives investment in this capital improvement would require and achieve.
The project is currently moving into Phase II, which will expand upon Phase I's initial investigations. Clark Architects, Inc. will once again manage the Architectural/Engineering Team, and work with the University through expanded scope development. Through Phase II, scope will be more fully and closely partnered with updated rough order of magnitude cost estimating, anticipated project phasing, and construction logistics sequencing.
